PACKUP

PackUp is a pouch designed to organize the paraphernalia of a saxophonist, keeping equipment safe and easy to locate.

THE NEEDS OF MUSICIANS

Playing an instrument comes with a lot of accessories. Instruments need to be cleaned, adjusted, polished, and sometimes repaired in order for them to be maintained. As a saxophonist, I know that we need to carry reeds, polishing cloths, cleaning cloths, and occasionally pencils, so I sought to create a case that would house those items to keep them organized and safe.
I started off by ideating different housing elements, and different ways they would be combined in a whole case. I knew that the best way would be to use soft goods like fabric and elastic, as it would allow for a case that is foldable into a small space. I ended up on a folding design that had no fastener because as a case that would be stored inside another case, it would be unnecessary, and therefore would make it more accessible.

I chose a synthetic leather and a polyester lining for the materials, as well as a thick black elastic for the holders. I chose a synthetic leather to create a sleek, luxurious look that reflects the aesthetic of many instrument cases. For the manufacturing process, I hand sewed the case, as I did not have a sewing machine at the time.
