Brief: To create an object from welded steel rod cube
Free is a sculptural vase that holds a single stem flower, leaves, or plants.

Free was a product of experiments with cold and heat bending steel rod stock. From my original cube, I kept the base and the four vertical edges. From there, I cut them to different lengths with an angle grinder. From there, I used a di-acro bender bender to bend hoops out of rod stock, and welded them to the tip of each edge. After that, I used an oxy-acetylene torch to bend them at the right angles to create the form of the vase. An ongoing project, I hope to continue iterations on the liquid vessel for the vase. For this iteration, I chose to use a rectangular shot glass because it seemed visually cohesive and fit the corner well.
